Supporting People With Dementia

dementiaCare Dynamics Yorkshire Limited (CDY) are registered with The Care Quality Commission (CQC) to provide care and support to people of all ages.

The word dementia describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem solving or language. Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease or a series of strokes.

If you are caring for a person with dementia you may sometimes find their behaviour confusing, irritating or difficult to deal with. When you are caring for someone with dementia it can be all too easy to ignore your own needs and forget that you matter too.

A person with dementia may gradually lose their independence and become more reliant on others for their care and support.

Our services are suited to those requiring a cost-effective alternative to a residential or nursing home or that needs that little bit of extra support at home.

We create bespoke comprehensive care and support plans and risk assessments for all services, we then monitor and regularly review, adjusting the service to meet the individual’s needs.

Reasonable adjustments

An education provider has a duty to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to make sure disabled students are not discriminated against. These changes could include:

  • changes to physical features, eg creating a ramp so that students can enter a classroom
  • providing extra support and aids (like specialist teachers or equipment)

We create bespoke comprehensive care and support plans and risk assessments for all services, we then monitor and regularly review, adjusting the service to meet the individual’s needs.

It’s against the law for a school or other education provider to treat disabled students unfavourably. This includes:

  • ‘direct discrimination’, eg refusing admission to a student because of disability
  • ‘indirect discrimination’, eg only providing application forms in one format that may not be accessible
  • ‘discrimination arising from a disability’, eg a disabled pupil is prevented from going outside at break time because it takes too long to get there
  • ‘harassment’, eg a teacher shouts at a disabled student for not paying attention when the student’s disability stops them from easily concentrating
  • victimisation, eg suspending a disabled student because they’ve complained about harassment
